UK’s Isambard-AI Supercomputer Goes Live, Setting New Standards
The University of Bristol has unveiled Isambard-AI, the UK's most powerful AI supercomputer, marking a significant leap in artificial intelligence capabilities. Delivering 21 exaflops of performance, the system ranks 11th globally on the TOP500 list and fourth in energy efficiency. Powered by Nvidia Grace Hopper Superchips, the £225 million government-funded project aims to revolutionize sectors from drug discovery to climate modeling.
UK Secretary of State Peter Kyle emphasized Isambard-AI's potential to enhance public services and national security. The supercomputer will also support the development of large language models tailored to UK legal and linguistic frameworks, positioning Britain as a leader in sovereign AI infrastructure.
